Seating and 24-Hour Postural Care: Consequences, Risk and Responsibility

This seminar explores the real-world impact of not providing appropriate seating and 24-hour postural care in care homes and community settings. It highlights how gaps in seating provision can increase risk, leading to avoidable pressure damage, pain, reduced mobility, falls, and rising dependence on staff.

The session focuses on seating as part of everyday care delivery, not specialist equipment in isolation. It considers how sitting, lying, transfers, and daily routines are closely connected, and how “making do” with standard chairs can quietly increase care needs, staff workload, and manual handling risk.

Designed for care managers, senior carers, and occupational therapists, the seminar supports services to recognise risk earlier, understand shared responsibility, and act before problems escalate. It provides practical insight into why timely seating and 24-hour postural support are essential to safe, effective, and dignified care.
