Dementia Training for All: Building Supportive Communities
16 Jul 2025
Seminar 1
Nearly one million people live with dementia in the UK, touching countless lives as family members, friends, and caregivers. Despite this prevalence, a significant gap exists between diagnosis and comprehensive support, with 41% of people reporting a lack of confidence in managing dementia—either their own or a loved one's.
This session emphasizes the critical importance of universal dementia training beyond traditional healthcare roles. As a Dementia Friends Ambassador for the Alzheimer's Society, I will demonstrate how care providers can effectively extend training to all staff—regardless of their position—as well as to family members, friends, and healthcare professionals who may not typically receive dementia education.
Participants will discover practical strategies for implementing inclusive training programs that foster a positive, supportive environment where people can truly live well with dementia. By expanding dementia awareness throughout our communities and services, we create a network of understanding that benefits everyone.
Join me to explore how broadening dementia training creates more compassionate communities and ensures those living with dementia receive the dignity, respect, and support they deserve in all aspects of daily life.
