Being Human is Enough – You Are Enough

16 Jul 2025
Seminar 2
Every day, in some subtle and, often not-so-subtle ways, we’re told we’re not quite enough. Not strong enough. Not thin enough. Not calm, smart, productive, or confident enough. The metrics shift, but the message doesn’t. It’s reinforced through advertising, workplace targets, school reports, social media filters, even well-meaning self-help, all suggesting we’re a few steps short of being okay. This constant striving can erode our sense of worth. It places “wellbeing” just out of reach, as though we need to earn it through transformation. But, what if we took time individually and collectively to consider what it is to be a human being, and what some of the universal features, or standard specs are? Maybe we’re not only enough, maybe we’re far more resourceful and capable than we realise. In this talk Matthew will explore these ideas and reinforce how amazing, knowledgeable, and full of potential we all are. Encouraging us all to harness the resources we either take for granted, or weren’t fully aware that we had. To take care of ourselves, doing the things that we know sustain us and the people who are important to us. Matthew will also introduce the evidence that links our emotional distress to the things that happen to us, rather than something being wrong with us. Highlighting the need for workplace cultures to focus on the climate that people work within, and move away from blaming the canary in their particular coalmine if they are struggling.
